We were approached to develop an architectural vision for the client’s new retreat for people of religious callings to take rest. The site is located in the Smoky Mountains, adjacent to a lake. The program called for a retreat center, lodging for four couples & a prayer-walk. We conceived of the retreat as a campus, formed by the retreat center and four cabins surrounding a community lawn. After walking the site extensively, we perched the campus on a ridge which terminates in a perfectly scaled plateau, overlooking the lake. The prayer-walk covers most of the beautiful 65 acre site.
